In the Sahel region, it only rains three months a year. The rest of the year the temperatures easily exceed 40 degrees celcius. 80 percent of the population of Burkina Faso depends on farming. Due to climate change the region faces desertification and longer lasting drought periods. Other obstacles include a lack of infrastructure and education.

TRIAS supports disadvantaged rice and onion growers with technical assistance and collaboration with institutional financiers through the guiding of rural banks.
